Garden Spot FFA Congratulates 2021 American Degree Recipients

The National FFA Organization awards the American Degree as the highest degree an FFA member can receive. Only 0.5% of National FFA members earn this honor.

Recipients of the American degree have to achieve certain requirements such as: completed 540 hours of high school agriculture classes, have a maintained detailed Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) record, have earned and productively invested at least $7,500 or have earned and productively invested at least $1,500 and worked 2,250 hours beyond scheduled school hours through their SAE.

Garden Spot FFA Alumni Jessica Herr and Danae Ranck, both 2020 graduates of Lampeter-Strasburg High School received their American Degree on October 30th, 2021 at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were recognized with a certificate and the American Degree Key, to be adorned on their official FFA Jacket.

Danae’s SAE is raising and exhibiting dairy beef as well as employment at her family farm - Walnut Hollow Farm, in Strasburg, PA. Danae’s FFA experience was valuable and she is so thankful for it. She has learned so many valuable life lessons that prepared her no matter where she ends up. FFA has provided connections and opportunities for her and she is excited to see where those opportunities take her in the future. Danae is pursuing a career in Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of Arkansas.

Jessica’s SAE is the working at the Lampeter Cafe, employment on her family farm - Southview Farms, and raising Market Lambs. Jessica’s first time in FFA was truly transformative. FFA allowed her to gain a better understanding of the agricultural industry, travel the country, and gain relevant skills that’ll help her as a leader and in her future career. Her favorite part of FFA was the rich community that took part in each time she zipped up her blue corduroy jacket. She is incredibly grateful for each and every experience she has had and she is excited to be able to stay involved through the Garden Spot FFA Alumni Chapter in the future. Jessica is studying Agriculture and Extension Education at Penn State University.

We congratulate Jessica and Danae for their amazing achievements through the Garden Spot FFA at Lampeter-Strasburg High School.
