Boys' Basketball: Section 3 Preview

On November 18th, Lancaster-Lebanon League officials voted to push the beginning of section play for winter sports back to the first week of January. Nevertheless, the high school basketball season is quickly approaching, with teams allowed to begin non-league play on December 11th. Here's a preview for Section 3.  Luka Vranich Goes Up For Shot in District III Consolation Semifinals (Jon Klein/Ethan Sauder) Manheim Central Barons Baron Head Coach Charlie Fisher in Game vs. Lampeter-Strasburg (Chris Knight LNP) The Barons are coming off a 2019-20 season where they finished with a record of 10-12. Things are looking good for the Barons this year, as they retain all of their key players. Nevertheless, the high school basketball season is quickly approaching, with teams allowed to begin non-league play on December 11th. Here's a preview for Section 3.  Emma Drouillard Shoots 3-Pointer in Game vs. Cocalico (Logan Thompson)  Garden Spot Spartans 2018-19 Garden Spot Girls Basketball Team (GS Girls Basketball Twitter) The Spartans finished the 2019-20 season with a record of 8-14. The duo of Erin Gonzalez and Taylor Soehner is expected to lead the Spartans this season, averaging roughly 15 points per game between the two of them in the last campaign. 2023 winger Nicole Zeiset should also play a bigger role on the team in the upcoming season.   Cocalico Eagles Naleah Sauder in Game vs. Warwick (Chris Knight LNP) The Eagles are coming off a season where they finished right below Section 3 foe Garden Spot in the District III

Looking Back at the Fall Sports Season

  GOLF The golf team captured the Section 3 championship with an unbeaten record of 12-0. Katie Lapinsky was crowned the individual girls' league champion after shooting an 8-over 78 at Meadia Heights Golf Club, the Pioneers' home course. Ben Wilson, Matt Wilson, and Gehrig Harsh all qualified for the District III tournament along with Lapinksy. Lapinsky and Matt Wilson were named L-L League all-stars at the end of the season.  Ben Wilson at L-L League Championship (Suzette Wenger LNP) GIRLS' TENNIS The girls' tennis team earned a third straight Section 2 championship with a record of 8-3 (7-1). Kylie Gerhardt, Ryan Gerhardt, and Kendall Winters were among the top performers for the team. The team reached both the L-L League final and District III semifinal but fell to Manheim Township on both occasions. L-S Marching Band Season Coming to an End

The 2020 Marching band season has been a tough but successful one so far. With the new circumstances and problems faced with the ongoing pandemic, the Lampeter-Strasburg marching band has fought through the struggles and managed to put on a season and a great show. The Marching Band started virtual rehearsals over zoom in June and from then on escalated to performing at L-S home football games and Thursday night rehearsal shows. Practicing and putting on shows this particular year required a lot of precautions. These precautions included always being 6 feet apart, wearing masks, and performing two shows at a time so everyone's parents could see it while meeting capacity requirements.  Even with all of the requirements that needed to be met, the 10th grader trombone section leader, Laura Leaman, says she "thinks it was a really good season considering the circumstances. It definitely wasn't normal, but we found our ways to still have fun and do what we love!" The show
