Garden Spot FFA welcomes new members with Greenhand Initiation Night
A time filled with food and fun, learning and games, and ...embarrassing moments! The Garden Spot FFA Officers invited all “greenhands” to an Initiation Night on October 24 at 6:30 pm in the Veterinary Science Room at Lampeter-Strasburg High School.
What is a “greenhand,” you ask? A Greenhand is a first or second year member in the FFA. These are the newest, “greenest” members in our organization this evening was an interactive, exciting introduction to all that the FFA has to offer.
For the majority of the Garden Spot FFA Greenhands, this is their first encounter with the basics of FFA. The officer team lead stations that covered topics in the following areas: degrees and awards that members can receive in the FFA, the components to FFA official dress, how to tie a tie, the expansive list of Career Development Events (CDE’s), the FFA Creed, the FFA Motto and the FFA emblem.
All of these stations were designed to help FFA members achieve their first degree in the FFA, the Greenhand Degree. These members will be recognized during the degree ceremony and at the Chapter Awards Banquet in March.
It would not be an initiation night if there no one played some crazy team building and getting-to-know you games. The night wasn’t over until the annual pudding feeding challenge was played. Things got a little messy in the Vet Science room and faces were covered with chocolate and vanilla pudding both a sure sign of a successful event.
The Garden Spot FFA is excited to welcome 26 Greenhand members into the chapter this year. The officer team wishes them the best of luck in their FFA endeavors and are excited to see all that they will do and achieve in the next three years!
