Pioneers a bounce away from victory, but fall to Cedar Crest 59-52

There's one minute left and the Pioneers are down three. Coach Achille calls a timeout and gets his play set up perfectly. It's the perfect play, and Isaac Beers gets his shot at a three-pointer. It's the type of story that can't be written. The shot hits the rim, bounces, and just misses. That's how close Saturday's playoff game was. One good bounce away...

All season, it has been a total team effort that has fueled the Pioneers to success
The Pioneers went down early and by halftime it was 31-23 Cedar Crest. Matt Achille was virtually silent until the second half, when he scored 17 of his team high 20 points. His momentum was the impetus for the Pioneers' 20-14 3rd quarter run.

After the third quarter run, Cedar Crest was up 45-43 going into the fourth. Things stayed close, with the crowd now fully in the game. 47-44 Cedar Crest, 51-48 Cedar Crest, and then finally, after a Matt Achille layup, it was 52-51 L-S. Cedar Crest followed with a 4-0 run, and with only a minute left the Pioneers were forced to foul in order to get the ball back.

After a missed free throw by Cedar Crest on a one and one opportunity,  L-S set up a three pointer, but couldn't convert. The rest was all Cedar Crest, who ended the game with an 8-0 run.

Other L-S scorers included Ben Sandberg with 7, Luke Beers with 4, Isaac Beers with 8, Darren Metz with 6 and Connor Brown with 7.

The Pioneers still have one more playoff game, despite the loss, on Tuesday, February 16 at L-S. Come out again to support the Pioneers, who saw impressive attendance in tonight's game as well.
