Mazaheri, Patterson power offensive explosion that leads L-S lacrosse to 16-10 win
Thursday marked the L-S boys lacrosse team's first home game, and they started the season on a high note, defeating Red Lion 16-10 on the home turf.
It did not have an auspicious start, though.
A timeout calmed the team and allowed them to execute their offense |
Almost immediately thereafter, Tyler Zameroski scored off an assist by Teddy Mazaheri and subsequently Trevor King scored off an assist from Nate Patterson. Then, Alex Knarr took a pass from freshman Noah Paterson and scored the Pioneers' third goal. At the end of the quarter, L-S led 4-2.
Nate Patterson notched another assist to start the second quarter, this time helping Patrick McClain find the net. Red Lion immediately retaliated and had another opportunity after an L-S foul, but Sindorf stayed strong in goal. Eventually, however, the Lions were able to tie the game at five by halftime.

The Pioneers began to pull away to start the second half. Patterson, Mazaheri, and Knarr scored early in the quarter to begin to open a lead. McClain checked in at goalie, and continued the team's strong streak, making several beautiful saves. At the end of the third quarter, the Pioneers led 9-7.

McClain's prowess continued to shine early in the fourth quarter, although Red Lion did force another shot in to cut the deficit to one. From there, the L-S offense exploded with goals from Zameroski, Mazaheri (four more), Knarr, and Patterson. McClain wrapped up the victory with a great save, and the Pioneers won by six.
