Pioneers Coast Past Barons After Strong 4th Quarter

After a strong showing in New Holland Friday night, the Lady Pioneers headed home to host the Manheim Central Barons Wednesday night. The Barons entered the game with a record of 1-1, losing to Cocalico and defeating Red Land.

After 6 and a half minutes of missed shots, Maddie Knier converted on a free throw for the Barons to break the deadlock. It was a very defensive first quarter, with the two teams scoring a combined 6 points throughout the entire quarter. The Pioneers led 5-1, with Jenna Daveler scoring all 5 points.

After missing her first 8 shots, Emma Drouillard started to find her groove, scoring 7 points in the second quarter. Maddie Knier and Katie Kroll led the way for the Barons, scoring 5 points each during the first half. Going into halftime, the Pioneers held a 22-13 lead.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers maintained their lead with Jenna Daveler and Maddie Knier doing the scoring for their respective teams. The score at the end of the quarter was 29-21. At the beginning of the final quarter, the Barons appeared poised to make a comeback until Emma Drouillard drained 2 three-pointers on 2 straight possessions, both assisted by Kiersten Hostetter. The Pioneers milked the rest of the clock away, winning by a score of 46-29.

THREE STARS:

Emma Drouillard: As per usual, the Sr. Lancaster Bible College commit led the Pioneers in scoring, earning herself 15 points along with 3 three-pointers. It wasn't the most efficient night for Drouillard, shooting only 26%, but she got the buckets when the Pioneers needed them.

Maddie Knier: Knier, the reigning Section 3 MVP had a rough night by her standards, scoring 14 points on just 20% shooting. However, Knier rebounded very well, hauling in 15 boards and earning herself a double-double.

Katie Ranck: Ranck was mostly quiet for the first 24 minutes of the game, but exploded during the fourth quarter. Ranck scored almost all of her 13 points in the final 8 minutes, helping the Pioneers put the game out of reach. She also brought in 8 rebounds, placing herself 2nd on the team in rebounding.

Honorable Mentions: Kiersten Hostetter and Jenna Daveler.

STAT LEADERS:

Points: Emma Drouillard, 15
Assists: Kiersten Hostetter, 7
Rebounds: Maddie Knier, 15
Steals: Kiersten Hostetter, 4

Next up for the Pioneers is a trip to Quarryville Friday night to take on the back-to-back Section 3 champs Solanco, while the Barons host Penn Manor in a crossover matchup, also Friday Night. The Pioneers move to 2-0 and sit on top of the Section 3 standings, while the Barons fall to 1-2.
