Cross Country: L-S hosts tri-meet. Boys sweep meet while girls split

On Monday the Lampeter-Strasburg Cross Country teams hosted a tri-meet with Manheim Central and Cocalico. The boys team proved to be too much for both Central and Cocalico.  The Pioneers defeated Central 15-47 and Cocalico 15-50. Don't forget that in cross country the lower score wins. Girls Tennis: Pioneers blank Cocalico, 7-0

On Monday, the Lampeter-Strasburg Girls Tennis team hosted Cocalico. The Pioneers made short work of the Eagles defeating them, 7-0. Singles Kendall Winters, L-S, defeated Mali Yang, Cocalico,6-1, 6-2. Ryan Gerhardt, Lampeter-Strasburg, defeated Bethany Elmore, Cocalico,6-0, 6-0. Kylie Gerhardt, Lampeter-Strasburg, defeated Maddie Sauder, Cocalico,6-2, 6-0. Liv Harris, Lampeter-Strasburg, defeated Amren Stoner, Cocalico,6-2, 2-6, 10-3. Field Hockey: Blantz Stars as Pioneers Move to 2-0

On a chilly and wet Saturday morning in West Lampeter, the reigning L-L league champion Pioneer field hockey team took on the Donegal Indians. The Pioneers controlled possession throughout most of the first quarter. Daisy Frank opened scoring for the Pioneers after a wonderful pass from sophomore Rowan Kimmel. Donegal leveled the score after a breakaway run from Emma Miller. University of Delaware signee Chloe Blantz scored her first of 4 goals on the day as time expired in the first quarter.  Chloe Blantz takes shot in scrimmage vs Penn Manor (Chris Knight LNP) Rowan Kimmel put the first point on the board in the second quarter after her shot deflected off a Donegal defender. Donegal defender Victoria Burton was handed a card after shoving a Pioneer attacker to the ground. Chloe Blantz added another goal to her tally on a penalty stroke after a foul by the Indians. Pioneers Run Wild, Win Section Opener

On Friday, the football team was back in action after shellacking arch-rivals Solanco last week. Despite not being a very warm night, both teams felt the burden of a shortened preseason as many players went down with cramps and other minor injuries throughout the game.    QB Sean McTaggart Runs Ball In Game vs Lebanon (Patrick Blain LNP) The Lebanon Cedars opened the scoring at Alumni Stadium three minutes into the game when Matthew Brown scored an 8-yard touchdown run after a big catch by Kaden Harbaugh on the Cedars' first offensive play. The Pioneers quickly responded by driving down the field on a 12-play drive that featured only running plays. Alex Knapp punched the ball into the end zone to level the score at 7. The Pioneer running game continued to run wild in the second quarter with Alex Knapp, Sean McTaggart, and Owen Fikkert all grabbing rushing TDs in the quarter. Cross Country: Freshmen Lead Way As Both Teams Start Season 2-0

After weeks of hard workouts both on campus and at Lancaster County Park, the boys and girls XC teams both got back into action on Thursday. The boys were lead by freshman Colin Whitaker, who was last season's L-L junior high champion. The girls were also led by a freshman in the form of Jaclyn Martin.  All of the top three finishers in the boys' race belonged to the Pioneers, with the previously mentioned Colin Whitaker finishing with a time of 16:20, Parker Stoner with a time of 16:59, and Adrian Elia with a time of 17 flat. LS swept the meet defeating Lancaster Catholic by score of 17-44, and Garden Spot by a score of 15-48.  The girls' race was tighter, with the Girls only defeating the Crusaders by a margin of 7. Jaclyn Martin, Aubrey Magagna, and Tori Smith headed the attack for the girls with times of 21:07, 21:40, and 22:35 respectively. Pioneers defeat Golden Mules, Milk Jug Stays in West Lampeter

It had been 295 days since the Pioneers last stepped foot on the field for a competitive game, but they came out of the gates firing in a blowout 32 point win over the arch-rival Solanco Golden Mules. The Milk Jug will return home for the 2nd consecutive year, and the Pioneers have begun the season on a high note.  Both teams were sloppy in the opening minutes of the game, with both sides committing numerous penalties. The Golden Mules in particular made many mistakes in the first half as a whole, committing 5 penalties and giving the ball away 3 times in the first half alone. Just 3 minutes into the game, LB Nick del Grande recovered a fumble deep in Solanco territory, giving the Pioneers great field position. QB Sean McTaggart quickly put the first points of the season on the board with a 2-yard touchdown rush on a read-option play call.  The turnovers continued for the Mules, as did the offensive onslaught for the Pioneers. L-S Football: Section 3 Preview

With or without spectators, it's set to be yet another exciting season for L-S football and the rest of the L-L League. The sections have been re-aligned for the 2020 season with L-S dropping down to Section 3.
