Pioneers Can't Keep Up With Warriors in Season Opener

Image
Friday August 27th. The start of the high school football season. Not really. After numerous lightning delays, the players were supposed to be allowed on the field for warmups at 8pm. Around 7:55, another lightning bolt struck the ground, causing Warwick's athletic director to throw his hands up in frustration. The game was pushed back to Saturday.  Take two.  High school football is back. In this rendition of Saturday night lights, the back-to-back reigning District III 4-A champion Pioneers facing off against the Warwick Warriors, who went undefeated last season prior to forfeiting the 5-A title game due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The last time these sides faced off was all the way back in 2005, with the Pioneers winning by a score of 34-7.  After a slow start by both teams, the Warriors struck first, passing their way down the field until Christian Royer punched it in from the goal line to give Warwick a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with a long drive of their own, only to end

Football: Section 3 Preview

We're under one week away from the kickoff of the 2021 high school football season, and it's about time to take a look at the Pioneers and their Section 3 counterparts before the first whistle blows.  Beau Heyser stiff-arms defender in District III 4A title game (Klein Media) Donegal Indians Connor Hyle in Game vs Lebanon (Chris Knight LNP) Previous Record: 3-4 Last Year: L-S 42, Donegal 0     The Indians have very few returning starters- a common theme across the L-L League. The two-headed backfield monster of Mason Ober and Garrett Blake are gone, but still expect to see a run-heavy style from the Indians. 2023 grad Landen Baughman (who only has 2 career pass attempts) is set to take over as the new QB. There will probably be some growing pains for this very young and inexperienced group, but there's enough talent in Mount Joy to remain around the .500 mark.   Ephrata Mountaineers Andre Weidman in Game vs ELCO (Missy Mortimer LNP) Previous Record: 4-3 Last Year: L-S 54,
