Drouillard leads Lady Pioneers Past Golden Mules

On Thursday night, the Lady Pioneers hosted the Solanco Golden Mules in a Section 3 matchup. The perennial title contenders have been anything but this year, taking just one win from their first 6 games. The Pioneers defeated the Mules 51-39 earlier this season in Quarryville.

The first quarter was a low-scoring affair. Around the four minute mark, Nikki Trout stole the ball away from Emma Drouillard and ran for an easy layup on the other end to give the Mules a 2-0 lead. This score held until about the one minute mark, when Hailey Leaman and Drouillard made three-pointers on back-to-back possessions. Both were assisted by Megan Manion. Olivia Lasko then converted on a putback shot to bring the score to 6-4 at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was more productive, as both offenses starting to get moving. The Pioneers played well defensively, limiting open shots and producing turnovers. At the halftime mark, the Golden Mules had turned the ball over 11 times. Emma Drouillard was the leading scorer in the first half, scoring 5 points. The Pioneers led 17-11 going into the third quarter.

The Pioneers exploded out of the locker room, with a three-pointer by Jenna Daveler jumpstarting a 10-2 scoring run for the Pioneers. Paige Phillips and Emma Drouillard had solid quarters, pacing their respective teams. The Pioneers held a 30-22 advantage going into the final set of 8 minutes. In the fourth quarter, the teams traded baskets all quarter until Emma Drouillard knocked down 3 free-throws to bring the Pioneer lead to 9 with just 34 seconds remaining. The final score of the game was L-S 40, Solanco 30.

THREE STARS:

Emma Drouillard: Coming off a rough night against Manheim Central earlier this week, Drouillard played very well tonight. She was the only player in the game to tally over 10 points (16), shooting an efficient 42 percent from the field.

Kiersten Hostetter: Similar to Phillips, Hostetter did just about everything for the Pioneers tonight. Hostetter bagged 3 rebounds and assists, 2 steals, and added 8 points on the offensive end.

Honorable Mentions: Jenna Daveler, Hannah Wood, Olivia Lasko.
