L-S Indoor Color Guard places 2nd and 3rd Place in first two 2019 competitions

The Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard placed second at their very first competition for the 2019 season. That competition took place on February 9 at Penn Crest High School. The show called “When You Wish Upon A Shooting Star” is performed to the song “Stars” by Skillet.

The performance starts with a solo by Christine Fritz while the other members are standing in the corner of the floor looking and pointing at the “stars”. The performance features dance, flags and rifle work.

The group includes seniors Christine Fritz and Maddie Swope, juniors Isabella Hayes, Hannah Martz, and Hannah Westerman sophomore Lyana Hall, Kylie Wright and freshman Hannah Broderson and Faith Keene. The group is coached by Kaytelyn Naglich who has been coaching the ladies for two years.

After a disappointing season in 2018 the ladies were very excited about their 2nd place trophy. “It was exciting!”, said senior Maddie Swope, “Our hard work paid off”.

In the second competition, despite a jump of almost 12 points, the ladies placed third. The performance is starting to come together a bit more. A 12 point jump in these competitions is pretty huge. This performance put the L-S Color Guard in sixth place out of 51 groups in Scholastic Region A of Tournament Indoor Association.

The group wants to improve their score in their next competition which will be held April 6, 2019 at Northern York High School. The goal is to improve at each competition until the regional championship which will be held at Lower Dauphin High School on April 27th, 2019.
