In My Own Words: Once in a lifetime opportunity for dancers in Moscow

In My Own Words

In this installment of In My Own Words, Emma Westcott discusses her upcoming trip to Moscow to study ballet.

I am a very committed dancer, and I'm excited that my studio, the Viktor Yeliohin International Ballet Academy, is planning a once in a lifetime trip to Moscow, Russia in the summer of 2019. Many people may not know this, but ballet is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Russia and has existed since the 18th century.

I've always wanted to travel abroad and explore another culture, but to be doing so with others from my ballet school is a dream come true. I will not only receive world class instruction, but also learn about the Russian culture, history, lifestyle, all while touring the city of Moscow and studying with Russian students.

For the first week, we will have outings to famous landmarks including Gorky Park, Red Square, along with a tour of the Bolshoi Theatre. I also am looking forward to sampling local foods and being immersed in the Russian culture!

The next two weeks we will be attending classes with instructors and students from the Diaghilev Ballet Academy. Our full day focus will be on ballet, pointe variations, character dance, and modern classes. At the end of our second week of study, we will conclude with a performance which will include the academy's students, along with the students from my school.

This incredible trip will be held June 12-30, 2019. It is truly the experience of a lifetime, and I cannot wait!
