Graduate Spotlight: L-S grad operating a food truck visits high school FCS classes

Matt Marafioti graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg in 2007. Since May 2015, Marafioti has been operating Mara-Leo's Italian Food Truck. His food truck serves a select menu of specialty Italian foods. In last year's Celebrate Lancaster, Mara-Leo's was even voted #1 Food Truck. He's even appeared on TLC's Kate Plus 8 TV Show Season 5, Episode 1 "Sextuplets Turn 12."


Today from 7:45 am until 1:45 pm Marafioti is visiting the high school as a guest speaker in Mrs. Cathy Lynch's family and consumer science courses. As an added bonus, he's brought his food truck!

Nationally, owning a food truck is a popular trend. In fact, new food trucks are regularly popping up all over Lancaster County. As exciting as the lifestyle appears, it's a lot of hard work. However, for Marafioti its a labor of love.

He will be talking to the tenth graders about how he got started as a food truck driver, what he does, and all the work it takes to complete the licensing to operate a food truck.

I recently finished reading  Rumble Fish  written by S.E. (Susan Eloise) Hinton and published in 1975. The book starts with Rusty-James on a beach and he runs into an old friend of his that he hadn’t seen in years, Steve. That’s when he flashes back to everything he and Steve had done and been through when they were kids. Rusty-James’ memory is all messed up, and he barely ever remembered much from his childhood, but seeing Steve made everything come back to him… and that was probably for the worst. Most of the book is from Rusty-James’ point of view (in a flashback) when he was fourteen years old. He was the toughest kid in his neighborhood… besides his brother, the Motorcycle Boy, of course. Book Review: Read the story of 14-year-old 'Tex' an aimless, trouble-prone youth

Book Review Before school started, I went to Barnes & Noble to get a few books from my favorite author, S.E. (Susan Eloise) Hinton, to read as the year started. I got That was Then This is Now , Rumble Fish , (a third copy of) The Outsiders , and Tex .  I had already read The Outsiders at least nine times, I had finished That was Then This is Now , and I had just finished Rumble Fish , so I decided to pick up Tex and start reading. The author of these books writes them in the only way I can ever read books. A Harmonious Evening to Remember: The Lampeter-Strasburg District Chorus Concert

On March 14th, 2024, Lampeter-Strasburg High School hosted the District Chorus Concert. Students from 4th to 12th grade performed captivating songs, and the auditorium was packed full of friends and family members who came to watch the performance.  Preparation for the concert was a long process, but a much needed one. No one knew how to sing the songs in the beginning, but after several rehearsals and time to fix the small details, they got to the level they performed at on the 14th.  The evening started off with the youngest singers of the night: the 4th and 5th graders. Their performance was followed by the Martin Meylin Madrigal singers and chorus, followed by the High School Madrigals and chorus. To end the evening, all groups joined on stage to perform “Ad Astra” together, a beautiful piece consisting of Latin and English lyrics.
