Dominic Reed to represent L-S at HOBY

Dominic Reed will be representing Lampeter-Strasburg as a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) Ambassador this week on May 18 and 19 at Shippensburg University.
Dominic Reed is the 2017 L-S HOBY representative.
Founded in 1958 by veteran actor Hugh O’Brian, HOBY’s mission is to provide lifelong opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential. O’Brian set out to help young people make a difference and become positive catalysts for change — in the home, school, workplace, and community. Now, with more than 375,000 alumni leading the way, HOBY is respected worldwide for its youth leadership programs.

Students wishing to be an HOBY ambassador must complete an application which includes an essay. In the essay, students write about are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of being a leader. Applicants are judged primarily on the quality of their essay.

Central PA HOBY and Central Pennsylvania Leadership Seminar were created in 1978 after Hugh O’Brian contacted the Pennsylvania Jaycees — a service organization that introduces young adults to community service and leadership opportunities. Since then, the Central PA HOBY Seminar has grown to consistently serve 250 sophomores each year from public and private high schools throughout Central PA.
