Column: Donald Trump elected 45th President of the United States

Early on the morning of November 9, news organizations all over the country projected Donald Trump as the winner of the 2016 presidential election. After nearly seventeen months of campaigning, the Republican businessman defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Along with reclaiming the White House, Republicans also won majorities in both houses of Congress.

After his unexpected victory, Trump delivered a speech in which he pledged to be president for all Americans: "To all Republicans, Democrats, and Independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people." He continued, "As I've said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign but rather an incredible movement comprised of Americans from all races, religions, backgrounds, and beliefs who want and expect our government to serve the people. And serve the people it will."

Donald Trump was not my first choice...or my tenth. However, he is the person whom millions have chosen to lead our country, and I am optimistic about his presidency. I hope that, over the next two months, we see the nation come together and unite. I also hope that Donald Trump uses this opportunity to restore and strengthen our prosperity, security, and freedom.

In a video message to the nation, the president-elect stated, "Now begins a national campaign to rebuild our country and to restore the great promise of America for all of our people. I'm asking you to join me in this effort. It's time to restore the bonds of trust between citizens because, when America is unified, there is nothing beyond our reach. Let us boldly face the exciting new frontiers that lie ahead."

Book Review: Read the story of 14-year-old 'Tex' an aimless, trouble-prone youth

Book Review Before school started, I went to Barnes & Noble to get a few books from my favorite author, S.E. (Susan Eloise) Hinton, to read as the year started. I got That was Then This is Now , Rumble Fish , (a third copy of) The Outsiders , and Tex .  I had already read The Outsiders at least nine times, I had finished That was Then This is Now , and I had just finished Rumble Fish , so I decided to pick up Tex and start reading. The author of these books writes them in the only way I can ever read books. A Harmonious Evening to Remember: The Lampeter-Strasburg District Chorus Concert

On March 14th, 2024, Lampeter-Strasburg High School hosted the District Chorus Concert. Students from 4th to 12th grade performed captivating songs, and the auditorium was packed full of friends and family members who came to watch the performance.  Preparation for the concert was a long process, but a much needed one. No one knew how to sing the songs in the beginning, but after several rehearsals and time to fix the small details, they got to the level they performed at on the 14th.  The evening started off with the youngest singers of the night: the 4th and 5th graders. Their performance was followed by the Martin Meylin Madrigal singers and chorus, followed by the High School Madrigals and chorus. To end the evening, all groups joined on stage to perform “Ad Astra” together, a beautiful piece consisting of Latin and English lyrics.
