Concert band helps "deck the halls" at West Lampeter tree lighting

Last night, members of the Lampeter-Strasburg concert band joined together in festive celebration at the West Lampeter Township Tree Lighting. Christmas is a time of giving and joyfulness; the L-S band, directed by Mr. Larry Royer, gave their musical talents for the enjoyment of West Lampeter Township.

The band played familiar Christmas songs such as "Joy to the World", "Jingle Bells", "O Tip Ka Tah"−excuse me−"O Faithful Pine" ("O Tannenbaum" & "O Christmas Tree"), and various Christmas tunes to liven the holiday spirit within the community. State Representative Keith Greiner, Village Renewal Committee Chairwoman Anne Dunnenberger, and L-S Community Closet Director Ilse Medlock spoke before the tree’s official illumination.

West Lampeter Township has been hosting the annual tree lighting for the past seven years, and in recent years, the L-S concert band has performed at these events. With a guest appearance by Santa Claus, the merriment of the season rang throughout the square and touched the hearts of each individual.

Although the tree was a bit modest, the crowd and the band, infused with the spirit of Christmas, had a marvelous time spreading holiday cheer. The L-S band plans to perform at two additional tree lightings: the next on Friday night at 7:00 in Willow Street, and the final on Sunday night at 6:30 in Strasburg.
